INTRODUCTION To PROFESSIONAL SERIOUS GAMES

Designed for those new to the world of professional serious games. The course includes hands-on examples of serious games as well as case studies on how serious games are developed and delivered. This course would suit anyone interested in finding out more about serious games in a professional environment.

Control Essentials

Introductory course on the skills and techniques needed to facilitate professional serious games and wargames. This includes the transition from facilitating recreational games (such as roleplaying games or megagames) to the professional environment. Aimed at those new to facilitation in the environment and who might be interested in facilitating serious games professionally.

I’ve never facilitated or been Control in any sort of game, will I be out of my depth?
— Absolutely not. This is an introductions to the essentials – you will get the chance to experience some of the challenges of Control & facilitation in a safe environment.

DESIGN ESSENTIALS

Introductory course on the principles of serious game design, with worked examples and case studies. Aimed at those with little or no game design experience and who might be interested in starting to develop their own professional serious games.

ONE DAY COURSE

Price: £500 per person (+VAT) min 6 participants

Can the course ensure accessibility for participants with little or no game design experience?
— Answer: No previous game design experience is needed. We recommend having attended our Introduction to professional serious games and Control Essentials course but there are no pre-requisites.

CONTROLLING THE CHAOS

Experiential course on the challenges of professional serious game facilitation. What to do when it all goes horribly wrong, managing difficult participants and the constructive use of pain, crisis and failure. This course is suitable for anyone interested developing their existing Control skills and/or wishing to practice those skills. We recommend that attendees have completed Control Essentials before attending this course.

TWO DAY COURSE

Price: £500 per person (+VAT) min 6 participants

What can I expect on this course?
— This is a highly experiential course, with a number of practical exercises and a certain amount of role-playing and problem-solving under pressure in a safe environment.
What can I expect on the course?
— The course introduces a number of client-focussed game development methodologies with worked examples, and includes practical group exercises in developing a fictional wargame design project.

Design to a Purpose

Course for more experienced game designers (either recreational or professional) on developing games to meet specific client-led criteria. Includes managing expectations, ‘mission creep' and approaching the impossible. This course is aimed at anyone who is either leading the development of, or commissioning, serious games or wargames for a professional client. Participants will have, ideally, attended Introduction to professional serious games, Design Essentials and Controlling the Chaos.

TWO DAY COURSE

SPS Serious Games Intensive

Week-long course that aims to take the participant from entry to competence. Incorporating and integrating elements of all our other courses, this one-week intensive aims to bring the practitioner up to the stage of being able to engage in both serious game design, development and facilitation in the professional context, and to a high standard. This course is aimed at anyone seeking to gain rapid experience and understanding of the facilitation and design professional of serious games and wargames

FIVE DAYS RESIDENTIAL COURSE

Price: £2,500 per person (+VAT) min 6 participants

I have little or no experience in this field, how will this help me?
— This course aims to jump-start your experience, bringing you from beginner to entry-level practitioner. By the end off the course you will have gained a good overall understanding of the practice of design and delivery of serious games and wargames in the professional context.
